Marina Oganyan is one of the most famous bellydancers of Russia. She performs at major festivals and prestigious events. She is also a bellydancing teacher and a choreographer, a stage director and producer of Oriental shows.
Every performance of hers (no matter whether it is classical bellydance or show) is an outburst of emotions. Marina is keen on experimenting with various trends of Oriental dance, enlivening them with sparkles of her inimitable style.
At the age of 11 Marina took to Indian dances. Her longing for perfection brought her to the Cultural Centre attached to the Embassy of India in Moscow. She did classical dance, khatkhak style.
While dancing at a traditional Indian festival, Marina attracted the attention of someone from the Indian Embassy Ladies' Club. That opened new perspective before her: she found a ready welcome at numerous Indian shows and festivities. At the very beginning of her professional career Marina got distinguished by her emotionality, sensuality and by her picturesque image, thanks to all that she won the recognition of the Russian and Indian audiences.
Marina's career made a new turn when she mastered the art of Arabic dance. At that time Arabic dance schools were scarce and the only way of learning the skill was to take private lessons from occasional bellydancers. That was how Marina made the acquaintance of the well-known Egyptian bellydancer Nour (Tatiana Fedyaeva) who came to Moscow for just a couple of days. Nour's classes brought about the understanding of the Arabic dance as an art that was to be taken seriously.
Following Nour's advice Marina went to "Ahlan Wa Sahlan" Festival in Cairo where she continued her training under the guidance of some celebrated choreographers. Her ambition was to become a professional bellydancer. Unceasing practice and performance became part and parcel of her life.
Now Marina is a professional bellydancer. She is the director of the "Amaren-Show" oriental dance company.
She goes to various cities of Russia teaching bellydancing and offering master-class workshops for professional dancers. In 2006 Marina was a guest of honor at the Berlin Festival Bazaar Oriental where she held a master-class workshop and took part in the gala show.
In 2006 Marina and her "Amaren-Show" company gave their first full-length show. It had the telling name of Harem. The show was a real treat for Oriental dance lovers. It crowned many years of hard work and manifested a combination of professionalism and imagination. All that won the hearts of most experienced audiences. The show was enthusiastically received by such people as Samir Ismail, the First Secretary of Saudi Arabia's Embassy, Rezina Ahmed, the Counsellor on Culture from the Bahrein's Embassy, Khani Shadi, a BBC World Service correspondent and Murtada Karim Salim, the "Al Khaleel" chief correspondent.
Marina does not intend to rest on her laurels. She is planning new shows and new tours. She thinks her mission is to give people a chance of feeling the sacrament of Oriental dance through her art. Oriental bellydance is considered to reflect the philosophy and culture of the Orient's genuine beauty.
